Tieracide OR A post a made earlier this morning, the OP not being much, but the thoughts of the other posters sparked this little bit. Basically I brought up WoW's tier system with battlegrounds, grouping levels with other levels. Hence my references to level 60 (vanilla WoW max level).
Tebu Gan wrote:Proto gear, as I see it, is your level 60, your max level. Proto is where your end game lay. ADV and STD are stepping stones to the endgame (much like WoW, where lower levels were stepping stones to the meta game). ADV and STD serve as more of a guide to the meta.
The differences between STD and PRO would be focused more on the variety available. Fewer variants at STD, a few more at ADV, and a TON at Proto Level.
Basically what I'm saying, proto is where your "tieracide" will happen. A focus on improving the meta that is proto, IE, multiple suits and weapons of the same race made available at pro level. STD and ADV being limited in variety, but really only being there to as a guide to highest tier.
People have been calling for tieracide for a LONG time now. I just don't think it's necessary to rework every single detail like that. Adding skills beyond say a scout suit that add passive bonuses would do the trick. Meaning, once you get your proto scout suit unlocked, it unlocks skills specific to that suit to put points into. Then do the same with other level 5 skills. Creating the specializations everyone wants.
So, to elaborate.
My skill tree remains mostly unchanged. But for dropsuits (as well as weapons and upgrades), skilling into assaults would look more like this.
Dropsuit Command 0 -5 Leads to Amar Medium Dropsuit 0 - 5 Leads to Amar Assault / Logistics suit 0 - 5 So this is where our current tree ends. But once one of these is level 5, you unlock. Leads to Amar Assault Special Ops suit 0 - 5 +2% to speed per level, Special Ops Command battle skill* Amar Assault Sentry suit 0 - 5 +2% to armor per level, Sentry Command battle skill* Amar Assault Gunny 0 - 5 +2% to weapon damage, Gunny Command battle skill*
Each of these suits having specialization skills of their own at level 5. Keep in mind, these only serve as an example of how expanding upon our current system would work to create the "tieracide" wanted. And how Tiered matchmaking would play a part.
See the emphasis is on the proto level; more variety, specializations, passives skills that make a difference, but small ones at that. Standard and Advanced serve as your stepping stones.
Because matchmaking would be tiered, new people would have a better chance learning and sticking with it. The path is clearly laid out before them, go for proto. By the time the reach proto, they understand well enough the system to continue on with it. But in this time, they have a place to feel useful and competitive. Which at the core of any FPS is what any player craves, being competitive.
At the same time, the vets that are oh so bored with the monotony of it all, have a fresh new direction to move in. Ultra specialization. At this point, trying to spread points out will mostly be a waste of time and energy as this will be the biggest sink of all. So here is where your "CHOICE" matters. What you choose will determine your role, if you want to be the best at that role.
To sum this bad boy up, I want people to recognize that Proto is the endgame and move to expand upon the current system in recognition of that. We can have tieracide, but at Proto level, with tier'ed matchmaking to separate the fact. Give the newbs a place, and give the vets a Meta Game, without reworking everything, just ADD to it.
* Command skills - Skills that can be activated in combat that argument the strengths of the given suit for a short time.
***Note I advocate not just a specialization of suits, but also that of the dropsuit upgrades tree and the weapons tree***

Ugh, this again.
It's an EXAMPLE of what I'm describing, the reason why there are no other classes. Those are by no means, no solid number but meant to spurn the thought of other in a direction that is exactly like tieracide. With my matchmaking thrown in to make it all make sense.

also the base cost of the skill point system should at least be reduced to 5000 sp this game loves the number 5 right? and the weakly bonus sp needs to be increased to 210,000 to help the new players get into their roles faster.
tieracide needs to happen
Considering the fact that this is of the same people that made EvE, simplicity is not their goal. And tieracide, would mean adding MANY new skills to the tree, of which have little to do with tiers and mostly to do with bonuses and specialization.
